FIATA or The International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations was founded in Vienna/Austria. First organized in the year 1926, the FIATA World Congress has been assembled 51 times until today, bringing the top representatives and decision-makers of the logistics sector under one roof.

FIATA, a non-government organization, represents an industry of more than 40,000 logistics and forwarding firms, employing around 10 million people in 150 countries.

Each year FIATA organizes a World Congress, in different countries across the globe. It was previously held in Taiwan (in 2015), Ireland (in 2016), and Kuala Lumpur (in 2017). The international event brings together the freight forwarding industry and transport world and improves the quality of services rendered by freight forwarders globally. The event not only provides an international platform to the leaders and stakeholders of the logistics industry across the globe, to showcase their digital expertise, but also proves to be a great medium to gain remarkable insights about the challenges that logistics companies face on a daily basis and provides sustainable solutions to deal with these challenges.

Logistics is a vast sector, comprising of shipping, warehousing, port-service, road, air, and sea freight and other value-added services. For a seamless supply chain, one needs to use these services carefully and keep on improving them through proper discussion and debate between all the decision makers and stakeholders of the industry. The global logistics market currently generates over USD 8 trillion annually and represents around 11% of global GDP. All the commercial sectors depend on a cost-effective flow of goods, and so, logistics is considered to be the backbone of every economy which needs to be strengthened.

Currently, India is the fastest growing economy in the world. Indian freight transport is growing by leaps and bounds and it is estimated that by 2020, its CAGR will be around 13.35%.

With initiatives like ‘Make in India’, ‘Digital India’, and ‘Skills India’, even the government is now determined to improve the transportation infrastructure, which is the most important factor to drive growth opportunities for Indian Logistics Service Providers.

Therefore, with the support of the Indian government, FIATA World Congress was held for the first time in India (New Delhi) from 26th to 29th September 2018.
